Pakistan launches its nuclear weapons program, a few weeks after its defeat in the Bangladesh Liberation War, as well as the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

Pakistan officially launches its nuclear weapons program in response to regional conflicts in 1972.
On January 20, 1972, Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto announced the formal start of Pakistan's nuclear weapons program. This decision came in the aftermath of Pakistan's loss in the Bangladesh Liberation War and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The program aimed to strengthen national security and deter future conflicts with neighboring India. Pakistani scientists and engineers were mobilized to develop uranium enrichment and plutonium research facilities. Bhutto pledged to mobilize all national resources to achieve a nuclear deterrent, vowing that Pakistan would endure any hardship to secure its defense. The initiative set the course for decades of clandestine development culminating in Pakistan's later nuclear tests.
