Born in 1910 in what is now the Czech Republic, John Banner fled Nazi-occupied Europe and settled in Hollywood, where he built a successful acting career. His iconic portrayal of Sgt. Cicely Tyson (1924–2021) was an iconic American actress whose career spanned theater, film, and television for more than seven decades.
