Commissioned by the Royal Geographical Society, he explored regions in present-day Algeria and Niger, documenting geography and local cultures. Richardson’s detailed observations on Sahara climate, flora, and the Tuareg people enriched European understanding of Africa’s interior. His expeditions set the stage for later explorers like Heinrich Barth. Richardson died during his travels, but his journals and maps remained valuable references for future expeditions.
