Laurel Clark was an American naval captain, physician, and NASA astronaut who tragically lost her life in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.
Laurel Blair Salton Clark (1961–2003) was a United States Navy captain, physician, and NASA astronaut. Born in Ames, Iowa, she earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch. Selected by NASA in 1996, she served as a mission specialist on STS-107 aboard Space Shuttle Columbia. During her career with NASA, she conducted medical experiments and studied the effects of space flight on the human body. On February 1, 2003, she and six crewmates perished during re-entry when Columbia disintegrated. Clark's dedication to exploration and science continues to inspire the space community.
