Born in Latvia in 1911, Aleksandrs Laime developed a passion for adventure that led him to South America in the 1930s. He explored remote regions of Venezuela’s Gran Sabana and became one of the first explorers to document the world’s tallest waterfall, Angel Falls. Laime spent decades mapping jungles, climbing tepuis, and living among indigenous communities. His detailed journals and photographs provided invaluable insights into previously uncharted territories. Laime’s dedication to exploration extended into mentoring younger adventurers until his death in 1994.
