Satoshi Furukawa was born on April 4, 1964 in Japan. He earned his medical degree and specialized in surgery before being selected as an astronaut by JAXA in 1996. On his first spaceflight, he served as a mission specialist aboard a Space Shuttle, contributing to scientific experiments and observation. He later spent over six months living and working on the International Space Station, conducting biomedical and physiological research in microgravity. His work has helped advance understanding of how the human body adapts to long-duration space missions.
