Soviet Press Day(Soviet Union)

An annual Soviet-era observance recognizing the achievements and contributions of journalists and press workers, held on May 5th.
Soviet Press Day was established in 1922 to honor the role of newspapers, magazines, and journalists in building socialist society. Celebrated each May 5th until the dissolution of the USSR, the day featured awards for exemplary reporting, editorial exhibitions, and discussions on the future of Soviet media. Workers in the press industry attended official ceremonies where their service and dedication were publicly acknowledged. The observance highlighted the press as a key instrument for propaganda, education, and communication across the vast Soviet republics. Retrospectives on the history of Soviet journalism and its impact on society were common, reinforcing the value placed on media in state-building. Although no longer observed officially, it remains a significant part of press history.
