Admiral S.M. Nanda was Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. He oversaw significant naval operations that shaped the conflict's outcome.
Born in 1915 in British India. He joined the Royal Indian Navy and rose through the ranks after Independence. As Chief of the Naval Staff (1970–1973), he led the Indian Navy during the 1971 war with Pakistan. Under his command, the navy executed successful operations including the blockade of East Pakistan. His strategic decisions contributed to India's decisive victory and helped establish naval supremacy in the region. After retirement, he remained active in defense analysis and maritime affairs.
