FIFA was founded in Paris in 1904 to govern international football, setting the stage for the World Cup.
On May 21, 1904, representatives from seven European football associations gathered in Paris to establish FIFA. Founding members included France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. FIFA aimed to standardize the rules of football, promote fair play, and organize international competitions. At its first congress, Robert Guérin was elected as the organization’s inaugural president. FIFA later organized the first World Cup in 1930, becoming the leading authority in global football.
