Jorge Newbery was born in Buenos Aires in 1875 and became one of Argentina’s first aviation pioneers. He set national altitude and distance records with his flights and promoted aeronautical clubs across the country. Beyond aviation, Newbery excelled in boxing, swimming, and fencing, embodying the spirit of adventure. Appointed Chief of the Aeroclub Argentino, he advocated for aeronautical education and safety. Newbery’s untimely death in a plane crash in 1914 solidified his status as a national hero and the namesake of Buenos Aires’ main airport.
