Born in Istanbul and raised in Greece, Stavros Niarchos founded his own shipping company in the 1930s. He pioneered large-scale oil tanker operations and diversified into banking, media, and real estate. Niarchos engaged in a competitive rivalry with Aristotle Onassis but established a legacy through philanthropic contributions to culture and education. He commissioned the Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens and donated art collections to museums worldwide. His business acumen and international influence made him one of the richest figures of his era until his death in 1996.
