Hasan Tahsini (1811–1881) was an Albanian polymath instrumental in introducing modern scientific instruction to the Ottoman world. Educated in Istanbul and Europe, he taught astronomy and mathematics at Darülfünun, the precursor to Istanbul University. Tahsini translated key European scientific works into Ottoman Turkish and authored treatises on astronomy, mechanics, and philosophy. His advocacy for empirical science and rational thought challenged traditional curricula and inspired a generation of Ottoman scholars. Despite opposition from conservative factions, his efforts laid the groundwork for modern scientific education in Turkey.
