Riccardo Cassin was born in 1909 in Arco, Italy, and became one of the 20th century's most celebrated mountaineers. In 1937, he achieved the first ascent of the imposing north face of Piz Badile and pioneered over 60 new Alpine routes. After serving as a mountain guide during World War II, Cassin founded an outdoor equipment company that bears his name. He authored several influential books on climbing techniques and expedition memoirs that remain classics today. His legacy endures through the many routes he established and the generations of climbers he inspired.
