Stuart Allen Roosa (August 16, 1933 – December 12, 1994) was a United States Air Force pilot and NASA astronaut selected in 1966. On Apollo 14, he piloted the command module Kitty Hawk, orbiting the Moon while his crewmates conducted surface exploration. A former smokejumper and test pilot, Roosa brought considerable flying experience to the space program. He performed scientific experiments and captured extensive photographic surveys of the lunar surface. After his mission, he served in various leadership roles at NASA before retiring in 1976. Roosa passed away in 1994, leaving behind a legacy as one of America's pioneering space explorers.
