Abraham Zapruder

(1905 - 1970)

American clothing manufacturer, witness to the assassination of John F. Kennedy

American clothing manufacturer witness to the assassination of John F. Kennedy
American clothing manufacturer who inadvertently recorded the most complete footage of President Kennedy's assassination in Dallas.
Born in 1905 in Kovel, Poland, Abraham Zapruder emigrated to the United States and founded the Zapo Manufacturing Company, specializing in women's apparel. On November 22, 1963, he filmed President John F. Kennedy's motorcade, capturing the only clear, unedited footage of the assassination, now known as the Zapruder film. Concerned about the graphic nature of the footage, he initially hesitated to release it but later provided it to the FBI and the Warren Commission. The film became a critical piece of evidence and has been extensively studied by historians and researchers. Zapruder testified under oath regarding the events he witnessed before returning to private life. He died in 1970, remembered for his unintentional yet pivotal role in documenting a defining moment in American history.
