The railroad between the People's Republic of China and Kazakhstan is completed at Dostyk, adding a sizable link to the concept of the Eurasian Land Bridge.

The China-Kazakhstan railway link at Dostyk is inaugurated, forging a key segment of the Eurasian Land Bridge.
On September 16, 1990, the railway line connecting Alashankou, China, to Dostyk, Kazakhstan, was officially completed. This junction overcame the break-of-gauge issue between China's standard gauge and the Soviet broad gauge. The link created a continuous rail corridor across Eurasia, later dubbed the Eurasian Land Bridge. It facilitated unprecedented volumes of trade, reducing transit times for goods between East Asia and Europe. The completion symbolized growing economic ties and cooperation following the end of the Cold War. Today, the route remains vital for international freight and Belt and Road Initiative projects.
