Nicolás Avellaneda (1837–1885) was an Argentine journalist and politician who served as the 8th President of Argentina.
Born in San Miguel de Tucumán, Avellaneda graduated with honors from the University of Buenos Aires School of Law.
He began his career as a journalist, founding the newspapers El Nacional and La Tribuna.
In 1872, he served as Minister of Justice and Public Instruction, promoting secular education and immigration.
Elected President in 1874 at age 36, he faced financial crises and internal rebellions during his term.
Avellaneda implemented currency stabilization policies and expanded the national railway network before leaving office in 1880.
He died in exile in Madrid at the age of 48.
