Yachtsman Jesse Martin returns to Melbourne after 11 months of circumnavigating the world, solo, non-stop and unassisted.

Yachtsman Jesse Martin returned to Melbourne on October 31, 1999, after completing a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation of the world.
Australian sailor Jesse Martin departed Melbourne in February 1999 at age 18 aboard his yacht Lionheart, determined to sail around the globe alone, non-stop, and without assistance. Over 11 months, he endured towering storms, equipment failures, and extreme isolation while crossing all major oceans. At one point, he faced seas exceeding 30 feet and subzero temperatures in the Southern Ocean. On October 31, he triumphantly returned to Melbourne Harbor, greeted by family and cheering crowds. His voyage made him the youngest person at that time to complete the feat and inspired sailors worldwide to pursue their own ocean adventures.
