Ming dynasty official and Confucian martyr
Yang Jisheng (1516–1555) was a Ming dynasty scholar-official celebrated for his moral courage in criticizing court corruption and upholding Confucian principles.
As a respected censor and historian, Yang Jisheng compiled official records and served the Ming court with integrity. He authored the 'Langya Hall Memorial', boldly accusing powerful officials of misconduct, which led to his imprisonment. Refusing to recant his accusations, he endured years of harsh treatment and ultimately died in custody. Posthumously honored as a Confucian martyr, his writings influenced later scholars and exemplified loyalty and righteousness. His life remains a testament to principled resistance against political corruption.
