The King Fahd Causeway is officially opened in the Persian Gulf.
On November 25, 1986, the King Fahd Causeway linking Saudi Arabia and Bahrain officially opened, providing the first direct road connection across the Persian Gulf.
The King Fahd Causeway, inaugurated on November 25, 1986, spans approximately 25 kilometers between Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia and Al Manamah in Bahrain. Conceived as a symbol of cooperation, the causeway was named after the Saudi King Fahd. It features a series of bridges and embankments designed to withstand harsh marine conditions. The structure significantly reduced travel time and facilitated economic exchange and tourism between the two nations. Opening the causeway required extensive engineering and environmental planning to protect the Gulf's ecosystem. Today, it remains a vital transportation link and a symbol of Gulf unity and progress.
