Birth Chocolate
Origin & History
The Belgian Royal Secret Project
In the 1950s, Madame Cacao, the Belgian royal astrologer, conducted secret experiments feeding different chocolates to heirs based on their birth months to predict their personalities. Records show incidents like 'The February-born prince became too passionate after eating ruby chocolate and abdicated.' However, in 1962, a royal maid stole classified documents and sold them to her chocolatier lover. Confectioneries worldwide quickly commercialized it as 'Birth Chocolate Fortune Telling.' The royal family denied everything saying 'It's all nonsense,' but it was too late - birth chocolate had already become a global phenomenon.
The Swiss Watchmaker's Bizarre Will
In 1973, Hans Zeit, a bankrupt Swiss luxury watchmaker, died leaving only massive debts and 12 premium chocolates. His will stated, 'Time no longer has value. From now on, count months with chocolate.' Twelve creditors each took one chocolate but couldn't understand the meaning, leading to lawsuits. The desperate lawyer suggested, 'Let's assign one chocolate type to each month and distribute by birth month.' When this arbitrary solution appeared in newspapers, it was misunderstood as having 'profound philosophy,' spreading as the concept of birth chocolate.
The Heartbroken Chocolatier's Revenge
Pierre Amer, a genius chocolatier in Paris, was rejected for 12 consecutive years on Valentine's Day. After his 13th heartbreak, he screamed in his workshop, 'Why must chocolate symbolize love!' and decided to completely eliminate romantic elements from chocolate. Using astrology, meteorology, and even traffic engineering, he developed chocolates with meanings 'completely unrelated to romance' for each month. His obsessive marketing campaign even spawned an urban legend that 'eating your birth month's chocolate decreases romantic luck,' which ironically became a huge hit.
The Chocolate Club's Fortune-Telling Fraud
A financially troubled university chocolate club created a fictional 'Ancient Mayan Secret Cacao Calendar Divination' to pay their clubroom rent. Members skimmed through Mayan civilization books at the library and forcibly connected cacao's chemical formula with celestial movements. At the school festival, they charged 500 yen for fortunes saying 'your birth month's chocolate reveals your destiny.' An archaeology professor excitedly declared 'This is lost Mayan wisdom!' and presented it at conferences. The club ultimately secured research funding, and birth chocolates became established as 'ancient wisdom.'
